“Eloise previously attended a different French club but she is far more enthusiastic and is learning more from this one!”
(Dad to Eloise, aged 5)
“Both Daniel and Grace have really enjoyed the classes, always letting Mum and Dad know French words ad hoc. Also, they like singing the songs particularly the Bonjour song.”
(Mum to Daniel, aged 5 and Grace, aged 4)
“Ginnie particularly likes the games and is becoming confident in using some French vocabulary. She has really enjoyed the classes and the social benefits of learning a second language at this early age are not to be underestimated. Excellent classes and a wonderful teacher!”
(Dad to Ginnie, aged 5)
Our Fun French classes take place weekly during term time with a break for Half-Term.
Our French classes are suitable for children from 3 to 9 years old. Children are grouped according to age. This enables us to plan activities which are suitable for the age of your child.
Each class lasts 30 minutes and children are actively involved in a range of speaking and listening activities throughout the class.
There are a maximum of 12 children per class. Small class sizes are very important to us as we believe that children learn French better as part of a small group.
Our programme has been carefully devised to appeal to children of a very young age. Many of the topics covered in our course link into the KS2 framework for Modern Foreign Languages. This means that Un Petit Bonjour classes offer excellent preparation for the French that your child may learn at school in the future.
As our classes progress, children gradually build up their understanding and use of:
Every Half-Term, there is a different topic on which we focus but we also regularly practise language from previously learnt topics so that these are not forgotten.
Via our Members' webpage, parents have access to vocabulary lists each term. The activities and topics for each course are specifically planned taking into consideration the age and ability of the children in the group. At the end of each term, every child receives a progress certificate detailing what they have learnt.
The main objective of the classes is to gently introduce French in a relaxed, fun way and ultimately for children to enjoy themselves! Classes focus on spoken French and this is practised through a medium that young children enjoy. This includes:
Much of what the children do in classes is reinforced week after week as repetition is the way in which we learn language and is particularly important for young learners. By using familiar routines and repeating songs and rhymes on a regular basis, children gain confidence in the use of the vocabulary. Un Petit Bonjour classes put French words to tunes which are familiar to the children. Many parents tell us that their children sing these songs at home, proving that this is an effective way of learning.
The emphasis in classes is on spoken French and we like children to be actively involved in listening and speaking activities at all times. Children of school age are encouraged to recognise and read written French words through games but children do not do any writing during the classes. Unlike some other language clubs, we do not consider activities such as colouring in worksheets as a good use of your child’s class time but we do provide you with materials along with a vocabulary list for children to practise their new language skills at home. In our experience, parents find this reinforcement extremely useful.
